The rare metal rush started when precious metal had been reported found in this town of Ballarat, Victoria at the end of August 1851. In Victoria, hostility between miners and government arose because of the cheap and nasty living and working surroundings. These problems began to expand because of the lacking gold guard licensing and training system. ' At the goldfields miners had to put up with changing weather conditions, shortages of food and water supplies, difficulty mining and residing in old ragged tents. There were a whole lot of theft, drunken brawling and murder so miners generally carried about weapons in self-defence. There have been many problems about claim-jumpers, which ended in miners functioning 6 days and nights a week (Sunday being their rest day). Due to unclean conditions the two death and disease just like Typhoid fever, dysentery and scurvy were all prevalent. The terrible situations the miners confronted were not fixed out and so conflict between miners as well as the government stored increasing.
The gold licensing system was yet another problem for the miners. They had to pay 30 shillings every month in advance only to renew all of them, whether they located gold or not. This only provided them the right to mine within a...
